Aarhus, Denmark – The Sailing Yacht Research Foundation (SYRF) supported Executive Director McKenzie Wilson to be a panelist in the Data Analysis session of the Design and Technology Symposium(DTS) held on November 27th in Aarhus, Denmark. The event drew the largest assembled crowd yet of over 100 designers, builders, sailors, race organizers, technologists and media to the 10th edition of this annual event held as part of the Yacht Racing Forum (YRF).

SYRF Advisory Council member Alessandro Nazareth was also on this panel to discuss the role data plays with development of the ORC and ORCsy VPP-based handicap system, as was Dmitri Nicolopoulos of KND-Sailing Performance, who has assisted with SYRF-sponsored data analysis projects that have been uploaded to the SYRF Boat Performance Database. SYRF Communications Director Dobbs Davis was also on hand to moderate the day’s sessions at the DTS.

“Our session was of great interest to our audience,” said Wilson, “who had many questions on the collection, filtering and archiving of performance data. Alessandro also showed some quantitative examples of how his International Technical Committee of ORC has used this data to improve their VPP for 2018. I think the event as a whole was a valuable opportunity for SYRF to get more exposure to this international audience of experts.”

Other SYRF Advisory Council members at the DTS as presenters in other sessions included designers Jason Ker and Juan Kouyoumdjian, while Andy Claughton was the Keynote Speaker for the entire Yacht Racing Forum event.
